Is market data different to the ARLT membership fee? How much are the market data subscriptions? |
| |
Yes the market data for the Interactive Brokers platform is different to the Aussie Rob membership monthly fee. The market data is for the Interactive Brokers platform and fees will vary depending on whether your account is classed as professional or non-professional. All individual and joint accounts are classed as non-professional.
Most Trusts and Corporate Trusts are classed as non-professional but some may be classed as professional. We do NOT have any say on what IB classes your account so please do not contact us in regards to this. By definition these accounts should be classed as professional and you should expect your account to be. If your account is lucky enough to be classed as non-professional, take that as a bonus.
All Company accounts are classed as professional.
The following information relates to accounts held by Interactive Brokers only, as of 24/3/2010:
Forex - Free (for both non-professional and professional accounts)
Commodities - $12USD per month (for both non-professional and professional accounts)
US Stocks/Options - non-professional: free if subscribed to commodities or $10USD per month standalone
- professional: $23USD per month
Australian Stock/Options - non-professional: $37.50AUD per month
- professional: $49.50AUD per month
ETF's - non-professional: free if subscribed to commodities or options or $10USD per month standalone
- professional: $30.00USD per month
|
|
| |
Are there any fees for a Trading account? |
| |
There are no account opening or keeping fees for LIS accounts. However for Interactive Brokers accounts there is a market data fee for the platform live data. For an Individual and Joint account it is up to $12 USD per month and for Company, Trust and Corporate Trust it is up to $65USD per month (for standard four; Forex, Commodities, US Options and ETFs).
For a break down of the fees please read the FAQ in relation to market data subscriptions below.
|
|
| |
Can I open more than one account? |
| |
Yes most definitely, as there are no account opening or keeping fees, you can have as many accounts as you like, they just have to be applied for separately. Please bare in mind there is the monthly data subscriptions for the accounts so funds do reduce minimally each month.
|
|
| |
Is it possible to apply for a trading account under a company name that is under application? |
| |
No, to apply for an account under a company name, the company has to be complete and registered.
|
|
| |
Can anyone else trade using my account? |
| |
When an account is opened in your name or under your control then it is legally under your control. Designed for you to trade, so you are responsible for the account. It is not recommended to share your details with anyone and keep the information secure like a bank account.
|
|
| |
What is the minimum age for opening an account? |
| |
To open an Interactive Brokers account, the minimum age is 21.
|
|
| |
What should my base currency be? |
| |
The majority of our australian clients setup their account in Australian dollars. This is by far the easiest way to get your account up and running as the bank transfer is national.
What base currency you choose is really your decision and does not make a great deal of difference. Remember you can change your base currency at any time so nothing is set in concrete! If you are unsure, check with your account manager what may be the most appropriate for you, to suit where you are in the world.
|
|
| |
Can I open an account if I am unemployed? |
| |
In theory no you cant, as you do need to provide contact information for your employer or company etc, and need to be able to provide information regarding your annual income. But if you do not work but you have annual income coming in from investments etc then yes you can apply for an account, we can help you with this process at the time of application.
|
|
| |
What kind of accounts are available? |
| |
There are a few different kinds of accounts to suit your desired structure.
1) The basic setup that 70% of traders use, is to trade through an account held in their personal name (i.e. Individual account), it is the quickest and easiest to set up. You can also have the same style of account with two names and details on it, which is a joint account.
2) You can open a Company, Trust, SMSF or Corporate Trust account.
3) We have also got a special account for only trading the Forex and indexes, so you cannot trade commodities and options through it, but the benefit is, it can be traded with a smaller account. So for example for some one with $10,000 wanting to trade the Forex, we would suggest trading through our special Forex account that will allow you to trade micros called an IG account.

|
| |
How long does it take to fund my account and get access to the simulator platform? |
| |
On top of the time guidelines stated above for opening your account , funding will take approximately two business days, providing you have done so correctly.
The main problems clients have with this is that they do not notify Interactive Brokers that they are transferring funds (as per confirmation email) and the funds are sent straight back into their account.
The funds do take some time to clear and access to the simulator account is not granted usually until the next business day. So please be patient and don't expect instant access.
|
|
| |
How long does opening an account take? |
| |
The total time from when you send your account application to us, to when your account is open, is usually between 2 - 5 business days. This depends on two factors:
- how long it takes us to apply for your account with Interactive Brokers (usually within 2 business days)
- how long it takes for applicant (i.e. you) to send the correct supporting documentation to Interactive Brokers (this usually takes the longest typically about 2 to 4 business days).
If you can gather all the necessary supporting documentation (i.e. passports, bank statement, Trust deeds) from the beginning and send them as soon as we email you to do so, your account should be opened within 2 or 3 business days.
|
|
| |
Who will my trading account be held with? |
| |
Your account will be held with Interactive Brokers on behalf of Lifestyle Investor Services. This means that Interactive Brokers are the ones who hold your money.
|
|
| |
